The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Poor Feedback

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the necessity for a distinct vision.

The president noted that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

The news mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire content from Ismailer's memo:

Dear Team—

I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a clearer brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the latest Lead of the team. After some time of discussions, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s management and background in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and managing some of the most recognizable series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in receiving him soon. We are all eager to keep seeing the development of the game in the months to ahead.

David

Experience of the Incoming Leader

The appointee currently holds the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had stints at other industry leaders.

Title Details and Concept

Project Ethos was announced in October 2024 together with a early access event. Initially, 31st Union presented the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch reads. "Take on the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that shift every session. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Or go big, risk it all, and hope your group can earn top ranking? The decision is up to you."

The game has not yet received an announced debut schedule or platforms, but players can expect more updates as production advances.
