It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a team that has achieved everything.

It needed as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over five decades.

It is hard for their batsmen to maintain a record if not afforded the chance.

Finally, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving a platform to produce her newest gem.

Then best known as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her bow and seven world titles have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not come up short.

If this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Many contend the argument supporting championship match pressure. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it has been a challenging time because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your fighting spirit take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her great strength - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the opening delivery and from there Healy was in motion.

"A chance to go out there and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

Once she was out her side needed 66 more at one run per ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the belief to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, if we do, we believe we can succeed."

That comment will be the ultimate thing competing nations at this tournament need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she wished she had played despite the injury.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have postponed thoughts of retirement, this championship is likely to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as captain.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
